Car Seat Safety - Town of Milton Fire Department

Car Seat Safety

Halton Partners for Car Seat Safety

Health Canada reports that car crashes are the number one cause of death for children aged one to nine. A correctly used child restraint will reduce the likelihood of a child being injured or killed in a crash by 75 per cent. In fact, booster seats protect a child from serious injury 3.5 times better than when seat belts alone are used. For this reason the Fire Service has joined other community partners in sharing the professional and personal interest in reducing injuries to children riding in vehicles in Milton. Our goal is to decrease injuries to children from riding unsafely in car seats through education, promotion, and enforcement.

The Milton Fire Department has staff who volunteer their time to assist families to properly install their child's car seat while teaching the families how they can do it for them selves. Currently staff is providing the service on a monthly basis, usually on a Thursday evening, at Central Station 405 Steeles Ave. from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Please note that there are only 16 appointments available for each clinic on a first-come, first-served basis. Appointments must be booked ahead of time. Unless in an emergency, no walk-in appointments will be accommodated during the day. To book an appointment please call 905 878-9251 and select 0 to reach our communications staff.
