Open air burning is not permitted in urban Milton. This includes burning that uses devices such as chimineas, outdoor fireplaces, as well as open air burning of items such as leaves and garbage.
Open air burning is allowed in rural Milton areas, but only with a valid permit. A valid permit is required for use of chimineas or outdoor fireplaces in rural areas. Each permit is valid for the calendar year in which the application is made.
The cost of each permit is $25.00.
Check the Burn Permit Map of Milton to see if your property is classified as rural. If you are unsure or have questions regarding the status of your property, please contact the Fire Department using the contact information at the bottom of this page.
If you are not the property owner, you must obtain the owner's permission in order to apply for a burn permit. You may complete the online application at any time, but final approval will be subject to submission of a completed Property Owner's Permission to Burn Release & Indemnification form. Print this form and fax back to 905 878-5914 upon completion, Attention: Burn Permits.
O.F.C. 2.6.3.4. "Open air burning shall not be permitted unless approved, or unless such burning consists of a small fire, supervised at all times, and used to cook food on a grill or barbecue." See Fire Protection and Prevention Act .
A Burn Permit issued between January 1 and November 30 is valid from the approval date until December 31st in the year issued. A Burn Permit issued between December 1 and December 31 is valid from the approval date until December 31 of the following year.
To pay by cash, cheque or debit card, apply and pay in person at Milton Fire Central Station, 405 Steeles Ave. W., Milton, from Monday to Friday between 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.
