Animal control ensures a safe and healthy environment for residents and animals in the community.
The Oakville Humane Society provides animal control services to both urban and rural areas of the Town of Milton. The Humane Society enforces the Town's Animal Control By-law , including: animals at large, vicious attacks, and poop-and-scoop violations.

No owner shall permit his or her animal to trespass or to be at large in any public place or on private property without the consent of the property owner.
Cats do not require registration or a license. However, every owner of a cat must have a collar with the owner's name and address permanently inscribed. Cat owners must ensure that their pets do not run at large and follow all other guidelines according to the Animal Control By-law.
A maximum of three (3) cats may be kept on a property in an urban area and a maximum of five (5) cats may be kept on a property in a rural area (unless barn cats in rural areas).
No person shall have more than two (2) dogs on any premises in an urban area or more than three (3) dogs on any premises in a rural area.
According to the Animal Control By-law, all dogs must be licensed. Fill out an Application for Dog Tag to license your dog and help to identify and return your pet if it gets lost. Obtain your dog tags at the Clerk's Division, Town Hall.You may drop off your application, fee and any required documents (proof) at the drop box located at the front entrance to Town Hall, 150 Mary Street Milton. Your original documents will be returned to you, via mail, with your license(s).

All cheques/money orders are payable to: Town of Milton. Please do not send cash in the mail.
All dog tag renewals must be received by January 31st of each year. After this date, late fees of $21.00 per dog will apply.
New residents must license their dogs within 7 days of moving to the Town of Milton; all new dogs for existing residents of the Town must be licensed within 7 days of taking ownership of the dog.
The Animal Control By-law requires that dogs be leashed when they are in a public place or on private property without the consent of the property owner. The leash cannot exceed 2.1 metres (7 feet) in length. Maximum leash length for pit bulls is 1.8 metres (5.91 feet).
