Town of Milton
Extended On-Street Parking - Town of Milton
Extended On-Street Parking
Parking throughout Milton is limited to three hours unless otherwise posted. In 2002, Town Council set up a process for homeowners to apply for extended parking (15 hour or 24 hour) on one side of residential streets. The review is done on a street-by-street basis when a change in the parking limit on a street is requested by a homeowner.
Homeowners considering making this application should take into consideration that extended parking on one side of your street:
- May complicate parking enforcement, snow removal, road maintenance and waste collection
- May result in homeowners from nearby streets parking on your street
- Will require that parking be prohibited at all times on the other side of the road
Process to Apply For Extended Parking
The following process must be followed. Please note that processing requests for extended parking may take up to three months.
- Send a written request indicating your reasons for extending the parking limit on your street and your contact information to:
Coordinator, Traffic and Parking
Engineering Services Department
905-878-7252, ext. 2530
- The Engineering Services Department will schedule a site inspection to determine if your street could support extended parking.
- If your street can support extended parking on one side of the road, the applicant will be provided with an information package and a petition form. The applicant must then gather sufficient signatures to demonstrate that a minimum of 51% of the homeowners support the extended parking request.
- If 51% or more of the homeowners support the extended parking request, the Engineering Services Department will issue an official parking questionnaire to the homeowners to confirm their support for the extended parking. This questionnaire must be completed by each individual homeowner and returned to the Town of Milton before the specified date.
- If 51% or more of the homeowners support extended parking, a report will be prepared for Town Council recommending an amendment to the 3-Hour Parking By-law on your street.
- If approved by Town Council, the appropriate parking signs will be installed on your street. Please note that the extended parking will not take effect until all appropriate signage has been installed.
