Weed Control

Property owners in Milton are responsible for destroying noxious weeds on their property that may have an impact on agricultural or horticultural land.

Weed Control Act

The Weed Control Act of Ontario states that all property owners are responsible for destroying noxious weeds on their property unless the weeds or weed seeds are deemed by the Weed Inspector to be far enough away from any land used for agricultural or horticultural purposes that they do not interfere with that use.

If a property owner fails to comply with the Act, the Town's Weed Inspector may have the weeds destroyed and charge the costs against the land in taxes.

The following are designated as noxious weeds in the Town of Milton:

Canada Thistle Poison Hemlock
Colt's Foot Poison Ivy
Common Barberry Proso Millet, Black Seeded
Cypress Spurge Ragweed
Dodder Russian Thistle
European Buckthorn Scotch Thistle
Goat's Beard Sow Thistle
Johnson Grass Tuberous Vetching
Knapweed Velvetleaf
Leafy Spurge Wild Carrot
Milkweed Yellow Rocket

To report a violation of the Weed Control Act, contact the Town's Weed Inspector at 905-877-1819.

Property Standards By-law

The Town of Milton's Property Standards By-law requires that weeds and grass in excess of 12 inches be cut, trimmed and maintained.
