Town of Milton

Chris Hadfield - The Town of Milton

Chris Hadfield hails from Milton

Colonel Chris Hadfield is a former resident of the Town of Milton, whose parents still reside here on their family farm. A graduate of Milton District High School, Colonel Chris Hadfield has become an International ambassador for the Town of Milton.

Accomplishments aplenty

In 1997, the Town of Milton commemorated the naming of Chris Hadfield Park and Chris Hadfield Way (northwest corner of Highway 25 and Steeles Avenue, immediately south of Highway 401) in recognition of his extraordinary accomplishments in 1995:

On April 22, 2001, Colonel Chris Hadfield became the first Canadian astronaut to perform a space walk while installing the Canadarm 2, needed to complete the International Space Station. On May 30, 2001 Mayor Gordon Krantz announced that the Town of Milton had arranged for a permanent tribute to be located in the Millennium Garden at Chris Hadfield Park to commemorate this historic space walk. This tribute, in the form of a landscape rock, was graciously donated by Dufferin Aggregates, with a Town-sponsored brass plaque that reads:

" Colonel Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian astronaut to walk in space, April 2001"

Meeting Colonel Chris Hadfield

Residents from the Milton community had an opportunity to attend a presentation by Colonel Hadfield on Saturday, June 9th, 2001 at the E.C. Drury School for the Deaf Complex where he shared the experience of his historic walk in space. This informal gathering provided an opportunity for Milton residents to personally congratulate Colonel Chris Hadfield on a very successful mission.
